FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
JUNIORS

Q: Do kids play the same rules as seniors?

A: Yes, Juniors play modified rules according to age. Under 12s and 13s play 9v9 on a half sized pitch and play according to the National Playing Formats and Rules which can be found here. Under 14s and above move to 11v11.

Q: How do I know which age group is right for my child?

A: Age Groups are chronological and selected by year of birth. The age your child is turning in any given year will be the team they are in. (e.g. If you are turning 12 in 2024, you play Under 12s)

Q: When is the playing season?

A: Juniors play matches from mid April for approximately 18 weeks.

Q: I would like my daughter to play girls only, is this an option?

A: At Skye United, we are very passionate about promoting female sports participation. Girls can be in a mixed team up to under 12s however we have girls only options from Miniroos to Juniors and up to Senior and Reserve Women.

Q: What equipment do families need for kids to participate?

A: All children taking part in training and matches are required to have their own Shin Guards and Soccer Boots (cleats) and water. Club fees include playing shorts and socks.

Q: When is training?

A: Skye United runs a variety of training session times according to availability of our volunteer coaches. Juniors generally train on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons / evenings with our youngest teams starting earlier and our senior teams later.

Q: Where is training?

A: During the winter months we train at our home ground, Skye Reserve on Ballarto Road. Out of season we make use of facilities at council discretion including Wedge Road in Carrum Downs.

Q: How long is training?

A: Our Juniors train for 60 minutes twice a week.

Q: How much are the fees?

A: Our fee structure is very reasonable and we work very hard to keep our fees as low as possible while providing the best soccer experience we can. Juniors fees start at approx. $435 (Fees are calculated each year based on fees from Football Victoria and Football Australia.)

Q: What is included in the fees?

A: Fees cover: Training (twice weekly), Playing Shorts & Socks, Weekend League Matches (approx. 18 weeks), All relevant registration fees and insurances.

Q: Do you offer payment plans?

A: Skye United can offer payment plans if required upon agreement. Fees must be paid in full 1 week before the start of the season.

Q: How do teams communicate?

A: Our teams use a team communication app called Spond. Each team has its own group that is run by the team manager. This is where you can find details on where the weekend matches are as well as a roster for families to bring fruit and lollies and linesperson duties, and any other relevant information for the team.

Q: What days are matches?

A: Juniors matches are mostly played on Sundays with the exception of under 12s that can be either Saturday or Sunday.

Q: Is there a league table?

A: Yes, from under 12s our teams play in graded leagues from beginners to advanced levels.

Q: What happens if it's raining?

A: Soccer is a winter sport and as such we can play in the rain. If the weather is considered extreme or unsafe for play (especially for our younger teams) matches can be rescheduled by mutual agreement with the opposition or cancelled.

Q: How can I register my child for the playing season?

A: Register your expression of interest via our registration page and we will be in touch.

Q: How can I help?

A: We are so glad you asked! Our club is run entirely by volunteers so we are always happy to have more hands to help. Volunteer roles include Miniroos team managers, coaches, assistant coaches, first aiders, game day marshals and general helpers for pitch set up and pack down.
